One of the first things I photograph on your wedding day is your detail flat lays—those beautifully styled shots of your rings, invitation suite, accessories, and other meaningful pieces. These images help tell the story of your day from the very beginning, and they also make for gorgeous additions to your final gallery and album.
To make those photos easy (and fun!) to capture, I always recommend putting together a "details box"—a small container with all the items you’d like photographed. Whether you’re the bride, the groom, or both, here’s what to include.
For the Bride
Place everything in a box or pouch and keep it near your dress or in the room where you're getting ready. This helps us avoid running around or searching for things when the day starts moving quickly.
Here’s what to include:
- Wedding dress & veil
- Shoes
- Jewelry (earrings, necklace, bracelet, etc.)
- Bride’s wedding band
- Groom’s wedding band
- Engagement ring
- Perfume
- Full invitation suite (invite, RSVP, envelope, any extras)
- Vow book (if you’re using one)
- Garter
- Bouquet (have it delivered before I arrive, if possible)
- Any heirlooms or meaningful items (handkerchief, charm, locket, etc.)
Important: Please make sure both the bride’s and groom’s wedding bands, along with the engagement ring, are placed in the bride’s details box. This ensures I can photograph all three rings together in one flat lay. I’ll return them right after the photos are done.
Optional but lovely:
- Ribbon, wax seals, vintage stamps, a ring box, or loose florals from your florist
For the Groom
Groom’s details are just as important and deserve to be documented. I’ll usually photograph these separately, but having them ready in one place saves time and keeps things smooth.
Here’s what to include:
- Tie or bowtie
- Cufflinks
- Watch
- Shoes
- Cologne
- Pocket square
- Boutonniere
- Vow book (if writing your own)
- Letter or gift from the bride (if exchanging)
- Cigars, a card game, or anything shared with the groomsmen
If you're unsure what to pack, just keep it simple and include the things that matter to you or add personality to your story.

Your wedding details are part of your story—what you chose to wear, how you personalized your day, and the small things you might forget in the blur of it all. These photos add texture, intention, and context to your gallery and bring your album layout to life.
