Wondering About Something?
Planning a wedding comes with plenty of questions, and we're here to make the process as simple as possible. Below you'll find answers to the questions we're asked most often about our wedding photography and film services, from booking and planning to delivery and your wedding day experience. If you don't see your question here, we're always happy to help.
How do we schedule a consultation?
A.Scheduling a consultation is easy. Simply fill out our inquiry form with your wedding date, venue, and a few details about your celebration. We'll get back to you promptly to schedule a phone or video consultation where we can learn more about your vision, answer your questions, and walk you through our wedding photography and film collections.
This conversation is completely relaxed and gives us an opportunity to get to know each other before you decide if we're the right fit. We believe the best wedding photography begins with a genuine connection, and our goal is to make you feel confident and excited from the very beginning.
Do you require a retainer to book?
A.Yes. A signed agreement and retainer are required to officially reserve your wedding date. Because we accept a limited number of weddings each year, we cannot hold dates without both being completed.
Once your booking is confirmed, you'll receive access to planning resources, timeline guidance, and ongoing support leading up to your wedding day. This ensures we're fully prepared to document your celebration with the care and attention every couple deserves.
Can we customize a wedding photography or film collection?
A.Absolutely. Every wedding is unique, and not every celebration fits into a standard collection. If you need additional coverage, an engagement session, extra photographers or filmmakers, rehearsal dinner coverage, or a custom combination of photography and film services, we'll create a collection tailored specifically to your day.
During your consultation, we'll help you choose the coverage that best fits your timeline, priorities, and vision so you never pay for services you don't need.
Do you offer payment plans?
A.Yes. We offer flexible payment schedules to make planning your wedding as stress-free as possible. After your initial retainer, the remaining balance can typically be divided into scheduled payments leading up to your wedding day.
We'll review your payment schedule during the booking process so you know exactly what to expect, with no hidden fees or surprises.
What happens if we need to reschedule or cancel?
A.We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. If your wedding date changes, we'll make every effort to accommodate your new date based on our availability. If we're available, your agreement can typically be transferred to the new date.
Cancellation and rescheduling policies are outlined in your wedding agreement, and we're always happy to discuss your specific situation should plans unexpectedly change.
How far in advance should we book?
A.Most couples reserve their wedding photography and film services 9 to 18 months before their wedding date, especially for popular spring and fall weekends throughout Southern California.
Because we intentionally accept a limited number of weddings each year to provide every couple with a personalized experience, we recommend reaching out as soon as you've secured your venue. Popular dates often book well in advance.
Do you travel for weddings?
A.Absolutely. The Archive House photographs and films weddings throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and destination locations across California and beyond.
Whether you're planning an intimate coastal ceremony, a vineyard wedding, or a destination celebration, we'd love to hear more about your plans. Travel requirements, if applicable, will always be discussed upfront during the booking process.
Are you insured?
A.Yes. We carry business liability insurance, and certificates of insurance can be provided upon request. Many wedding venues require proof of insurance before vendors are permitted to work on the property, and we're happy to coordinate directly with your venue if needed.
Have you shot at our venue before?
A.We've photographed weddings at a variety of venues throughout Southern California, but it's never a requirement for creating beautiful images. Before every wedding, we carefully research the venue, review your timeline, evaluate lighting conditions, and identify the best locations for portraits and meaningful moments.
Whether it's a venue we've visited many times or one we're photographing for the first time, we approach every wedding with thoughtful preparation and fresh creativity.
Do you offer engagement sessions?
A.Yes! Engagement sessions are available as an add-on or included with select wedding photography collections. They’re a great opportunity for us to get to know each other before your wedding day while helping you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
Engagement sessions also provide beautiful images for save-the-dates, wedding websites, invitations, or simply documenting this exciting chapter of your lives. More importantly, they help create a natural connection that makes your wedding day portraits feel effortless.
How many wedding photos will we receive?
A.Every wedding is unique, so the number of images delivered depends on the length of coverage, the events of the day, and the size of your celebration. Rather than limiting your gallery to a specific number, we focus on delivering every meaningful image that meets our quality standards.
Our goal is to provide a complete and thoughtfully curated story of your wedding day, capturing everything from the smallest details to the biggest moments.
Will all the photos be edited?
A.Absolutely. Every image included in your final gallery is individually reviewed and professionally edited to reflect The Archive House's timeless and natural style. We carefully adjust color, exposure, contrast, and composition while maintaining authentic skin tones and true-to-life moments.
We believe your photographs should look just as beautiful decades from now as they do today, which is why we avoid trendy editing styles that quickly become dated.
Do you deliver RAW files?
A.No. RAW files are unfinished digital negatives and are not representative of our final work. Every photograph we deliver has been carefully selected and professionally edited to reflect the artistic style and quality that define The Archive House.
This allows us to provide a consistent experience and ensures every image you receive is complete and ready to print, share, and enjoy.
How will we receive our photos?
A.Your photographs will be delivered through a private online gallery that's easy to access from any computer, tablet, or smartphone. You'll be able to download your high-resolution images, share your gallery with family and friends, and order professional-quality prints directly from the gallery if you choose.
Your gallery is designed to make preserving and sharing your wedding memories simple and convenient.
Can we request specific shots or a shot list?
A.Absolutely. We encourage every couple to share family photo lists and any meaningful moments that are especially important to them. This helps us stay organized and ensures we don't miss the people and memories that matter most.
For portraits and family groupings, a shot list is extremely helpful. For the rest of the day, we take a documentary approach, allowing genuine moments to unfold naturally rather than directing every interaction.
Can you help us plan the photo timeline?
A.Yes. Timeline planning is included with every wedding collection because great photography starts long before the wedding day. We'll work with you and your planner to create a schedule that allows enough time for portraits, family photographs, and important moments while taking advantage of the best natural light throughout the day.
Careful planning helps your wedding feel relaxed and allows us to create the timeless imagery we're known for.
Do you bring backup gear?
A.Absolutely. We always arrive with professional backup cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, batteries, memory cards, and other essential gear. Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events, and having redundant equipment is an important part of ensuring your day is documented without interruption.
How do you handle difficult lighting situations?
A.Every wedding presents different lighting conditions, from bright afternoon ceremonies to dimly lit receptions. With over a decade of professional experience, we're prepared to work confidently in a wide range of environments using both natural light and professional lighting equipment when needed.
Our goal is to create beautiful, consistent photographs regardless of the conditions while preserving the atmosphere and emotion of your wedding day.
Do you help with posing if we've never been photographed before?
A.Absolutely. Most of our couples have never been professionally photographed before, and that's completely normal. Rather than placing you in stiff poses, we'll gently guide you with natural prompts and simple direction that encourage genuine interaction. Our goal is to help you feel comfortable, confident, and fully present so your photographs reflect who you truly are—not forced smiles or awkward poses.
What’s included in a wedding film?
A.Every wedding film is thoughtfully crafted to tell the story of your day in a cinematic and authentic way. Depending on the collection you choose, your film may include the anticipation of getting ready, your ceremony, vows, speeches, portraits, reception highlights, and all the meaningful moments in between.
Rather than simply documenting events, our goal is to create a timeless film that captures the emotions, atmosphere, and memories of your wedding day so you can relive them for years to come.
Can we book wedding photography and films together?
A.Yes. Many couples choose to book both wedding photography and films with The Archive House for a seamless experience. Because our team works together regularly, we're able to document your wedding without competing for moments or getting in each other's way.
Having one creative team also creates a more consistent visual style across your photographs and films while simplifying communication, planning, and your overall wedding experience.
Do you record audio for vows and speeches?
A.Absolutely. Clear audio is one of the most important elements of a meaningful wedding film. We use professional microphones and multiple backup audio sources to capture your vows, speeches, and other important moments with clarity.
Combining beautiful visuals with high-quality audio allows us to create films that feel emotional, immersive, and true to your wedding day.
Can we choose the music for our video?
A.Due to music licensing requirements, we carefully select licensed songs that complement the style, emotion, and pacing of your wedding film. This ensures your film can be legally shared online while maintaining the cinematic experience we're known for.
If you have a preferred genre, mood, or style of music, we're always happy to take those preferences into consideration during the editing process.
Do you offer drone footage?
A.Yes, aerial drone footage is included whenever conditions allow. Drone footage provides a unique perspective of your venue and surroundings while adding beautiful cinematic establishing shots to your wedding film.
All drone operations are conducted safely and in accordance with FAA regulations, weather conditions, and venue restrictions. If drone flights aren't permitted or conditions aren't safe, we'll use other creative techniques to capture your day beautifully.
Do you deliver raw footage?
A.No. RAW footage is not included because it represents unfinished material that has not been edited, color graded, or refined to reflect The Archive House's creative standards.
Every wedding film we deliver is carefully crafted through a detailed editing process designed to tell your story in a cohesive, emotional, and cinematic way.
Will you film the full ceremony and speeches?
A.Coverage varies depending on the wedding film collection you choose. If your collection includes documentary edits of the ceremony or speeches, these moments will be professionally recorded in full using multiple cameras and high-quality audio.
During your consultation, we'll walk you through the available film options and help you choose the collection that best fits your priorities.
How many cameras do you use?
A.The number of cameras used depends on your wedding day and the collection you've selected. We regularly film with multiple professional 4K cameras to capture different angles simultaneously, ensuring important moments like your ceremony, vows, first look, and speeches are documented from multiple perspectives.
This approach creates a more dynamic and cinematic final film while providing additional reliability throughout the day.
Can we request changes after the video is delivered?
A.We carefully review every wedding film before delivery to ensure it reflects the quality and storytelling style of The Archive House. If you notice a genuine editing issue, we'll gladly correct it.
Creative editing decisions—including pacing, music selection, storytelling, and overall style—are part of our artistic process and are designed to preserve the integrity of your wedding film.
Do you offer a teaser video for social media?
A.Depending on your collection, teaser films may be included or available as an optional add-on. These short cinematic edits are perfect for sharing with family and friends while you wait for your completed wedding film.
During your consultation, we'll explain which collections include teaser films and any available upgrade options.
Do you include voiceovers or interviews in the film?
A.Whenever possible, we thoughtfully weave meaningful moments from your vows, letters, and speeches into your highlight film to create a more personal and emotional story. Rather than simply showing what happened, we use your words to help tell the story of your wedding day in a way that feels authentic and timeless.
Every film is edited individually, allowing us to create a final piece that's unique to your celebration and true to your experience.
Do you work with a second shooter or assistant?
A.Depending on the collection you choose, a second photographer or filmmaker can be included or added to provide additional coverage. Having a second creative allows us to capture multiple perspectives simultaneously, from both partners getting ready to different angles during the ceremony and reception.
If your wedding timeline or guest count would benefit from additional coverage, we'll happily recommend the best option during your consultation.
What time do you arrive on the wedding day?
A.We typically arrive before your scheduled coverage begins so we have time to unload equipment, connect with your planner, coordinate with your vendor team, and prepare for the first moments of your day.
Our goal is to begin documenting your wedding calmly and intentionally, allowing everything to unfold naturally from the very start.
How do you dress for weddings?
A.We always dress professionally and appropriately for the style and formality of your wedding. Our goal is to blend seamlessly into your celebration while remaining comfortable enough to move efficiently throughout the day.
Whether your wedding is black tie, formal, or more relaxed, we strive to look polished while remaining as unobtrusive as possible.
Will you help with posing and directing?
A.Absolutely. Most of our couples tell us they've never been professionally photographed before, and that's completely normal. We'll provide gentle guidance whenever needed while encouraging natural interaction rather than stiff or overly posed moments.
Our approach is designed to help you feel relaxed, confident, and fully present so your photographs and films reflect genuine emotion and authentic connection.
What if it rains or the weather changes?
A.Weather is one of the few things we can't control, but we're always prepared to adapt. Whether it's rain, wind, extreme heat, or unexpected schedule changes, we'll work closely with your planner and venue to adjust our approach while continuing to create beautiful photographs and films.
Some of the most memorable wedding images are created in unexpected conditions, and we'll always make the most of whatever the day brings.
Do you take photos of both partners getting ready?
A.Yes. If your timeline and collection allow, we'll happily document both partners getting ready before the ceremony. Capturing these moments helps tell a more complete story of your wedding day, from the anticipation and excitement before the ceremony to your celebration together afterward.
If you're booking photography and film together or adding a second photographer, covering both locations is often even more seamless.
What do you need from us on the wedding day?
A.Before your wedding, we'll ask you to complete a questionnaire with important details such as your timeline, family photo list, venue information, vendor contacts, and any special moments you'd like us to be aware of.
This preparation allows us to arrive fully informed so you can enjoy your wedding day knowing every important detail has already been planned.
Can you stay longer if the day runs behind?
A.Whenever our schedule allows, additional coverage may be available if your wedding day extends beyond your contracted hours. If you think there's a possibility you'll need extra time, we're happy to discuss flexible coverage options before your wedding.
Our priority is making sure the moments that matter most are documented whenever possible.
Will you help keep the day on track?
A.Yes. While your planner or coordinator leads the overall schedule, we're always mindful of the timeline and work closely with your vendor team to help everything flow smoothly. From organizing family portraits efficiently to suggesting the best time for sunset portraits, we'll help keep photography moving without making your day feel rushed.
Our experience allows us to anticipate potential delays and adapt quickly while keeping the focus on your celebration.
What should we do if something runs late or changes last minute?
A.Weddings are full of unexpected moments, and flexibility is part of our approach. If your timeline shifts, weather changes, or plans evolve throughout the day, simply let us or your planner know. We'll adjust our coverage accordingly and continue documenting your wedding with the same level of care and professionalism.
Our goal is for you to enjoy your day without worrying about the logistics—we'll take care of the rest.
Every wedding is unique, and we'd be happy to answer anything that isn't covered here. If you're ready to learn more about our wedding photography and film collections—or simply want to chat about your plans—we'd love to hear from you.
