As a wedding photographer based in Southern California, I’ve been inside all kinds of getting-ready spaces—hotel rooms in Los Angeles, Airbnbs in Temecula wine country, and bridal suites across the coast. And no matter how beautiful the space is, it can easily feel chaotic once the day starts moving.
Want clean, calm, beautiful getting-ready photos? A little prep goes a long way. Here’s how to keep your space clutter-free and camera-ready—wherever your wedding day begins.
1. Choose the Right Room
If you have options, look for a space with:
- Big windows for natural light
- Light, neutral-colored walls
- Minimal furniture and clean design
Corner hotel rooms, well-lit Airbnbs, or private suites with open space all work great. Whether you’re getting ready in a downtown LA hotel or a vineyard-side cottage in Temecula, light and simplicity are key.
2. Keep One Area Clean (Just for Photos)
Pick one side of the room to stay clear. That’s where I’ll photograph your dress, bridal party robes, flat lays, and where you’ll likely get dressed.
Ask your crew to keep bags, shoes, food, and phones out of this zone. Even a small corner with great window light can create beautiful, editorial-style photos.
3. Use Closets, Bathrooms, or Extra Rooms
Encourage your bridal party to tuck their bags away when they’re done getting dressed. Suitcases in the closet, extra clothes in the bathroom, and unused items out of sight.
If you’re prepping in a Temecula Airbnb or SoCal home, use one of the bedrooms as a storage zone so the main space stays clean.
4. Have Details Ready to Go
When I arrive, I usually begin with flat lay photos:
rings, shoes, jewelry, invitations, vow books, and other special details.
Make sure your engagement ring, both wedding bands, and all accessories are in your details box (more on that [here]). Having everything ready helps the morning feel smooth and relaxed.
5. Assign One Person to Be the Organizer
Pick a friend or family member to help keep things tidy during the prep process. They can make sure nothing ends up in the background of your photos and help keep the space calm and comfortable.
Bonus Tip: Add Buffer Time
If you're getting ready in Los Angeles or anywhere with traffic (which is... everywhere in SoCal), add 15–30 minutes of breathing room. Elevators, valet delays, or last-minute touch-ups are all easier to manage with extra time built in.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need a picture-perfect prep space—you just need a little light, a clean corner, and some intentional prep. Whether you’re getting ready in LA, Temecula, or anywhere in Southern California, a clutter-free space sets the tone for a calm, beautiful start to your wedding day.
Still deciding where to get ready or how to set up your timeline? I’m happy to help. I’ve worked in all types of prep spaces across SoCal and can help you plan what works best for your day.
